NJ EAST CENTRAL SOUTH SECTION
Royal Rangers Roundtable
June 19, 2017
Opening Prayer – Bob Eckert
Devotion – John Fudalik
Sundays – in the past, there were never games on Sundays. Ex 20:8, Deut 5:12 – Remember the Sabbath Day by keeping it holy. JC Ryle – Thoughts for Young Men – Make sure that we, and the boys in our charge, are in attendance at church on Sundays.
Sectional Leaders Report – John Fudalik
Upcoming District Roundtable on July 7 in Hamilton.
Sectional PowWow – Aaron Biernacki
- RK – 18; DR – 27; AR – 16; ER – 8; Commanders – 30; Others – 19 = 118 participants (doesn’t include Outpost 51 registrants). ADD 28 (OP 51)
- The PortaPotties this year were better.
- District PowWow theme – “Mighty Men of God” Not sure how the District will approach it.
- Streamline OP 51’s event as possibility for the District PowWow. 3-4 stations; 10 minute course.
- Inspections – give specific feedback to each outpost. Lots of dirty dishes; need to have water, shovel by fire pits.
Chartering – Al Barber
- Chartering starts Aug 15 – Oct 31. Don’t drag your feet; get your charter in during that time period! Outposts that aren’t chartered will be charged an additional 15% for attendance at PowWows and other events.
Training – Al Barber
- Email from Hector – Boy Scouts Sat July 22th running BB Gun/Archery certification/recertification course at Quail Hill; looking for commanders to take the course and then help to run the course at District PowWow. Al will let us know about cost and time.
- NRMC –
9/8-9/10 in Whiteford, MD - EMPOWER 18 = March 16-17 in Harrisburg
- Instead of usual October training, they’re putting together some sort of combined training…more details to come.
- Bob Bell raised the possibility of offering a First Aid/CPR course for the section. 6 hour course. He could probably do 12 to maybe 15 at a time. He’ll look into the cost, etc. and get back to us.
- Outpost 118 is planning some Leadership Merits during the summer; we’ll let everyone know when they are. We’d ask that if an outpost is bringing any boys, that a commander will come to help teach.
- Write letters to MONOC/Barnabas, ALERT/Meridian, etc. to see if they’d donate an AED/sectional trauma bag to the section since we have certified AED users. Look into First Aid Kit to have for the section that’s always available for campouts. Need Sectional Safety Officer to be responsible for it, make sure it’s restocked if something is used.
FCF –
- Regional Rendezvous – October – Honey Grove, PA
Camporama –
- Start watching district and national websites for information.
NJRRAA – August 20-25
- Applications are online
- If you’re planning to work the camp, application/background check forms on website
Finances – see attached (distributed to attendees at meeting)
- Balance $4,504.32
- Debacle with patches – Aaron got all the $$ back; we reordered from another company, and have received them.
- Only thing outstanding is RK patches and $200 to guest speaker
Miscellaneous/Open discussion
- Winter Day was basically a youth event…there was nothing that distinguished it as a Ranger event. Yes, the events were engaging to the boys, but we need to make it more Ranger focused. Are we training the boys to lead? Let the boys make mistakes and learn from them; commanders shouldn’t jump in and do it for them.
- Suggestion: we shouldn’t give detailed info for PowWow events…say something like, “you’ll need to tie knots,” or “you’ll need to use your lashing/First Aid skills,” but don’t say which specific knot, etc. they’ll need to do.
Next Roundtable meeting:
Date: Aug. 14
Location: TBA – maybe Wall? Bob Bell will check and get back to Rhoda
Devotion: Bob Bell
Closing prayer – Garth Newell
